London has a long and proud history of playing host to some of the world’s best sporting events and that’s set to continue throughout 2024. Securing its position as the sporting capital of the world, the boost to the economy, the city’s global reach and the bringing together of communities means celebrations will be as inspirational as ever throughout the year. With an amazing wealth of state-of-the-art venues, London is diverse, well-connected and always welcoming. With that in mind, we’re going to take a look at a selection of what’s upcoming…

London Tennis

Queen’s and Wimbledon return this summer for their traditional slots and they’re a definitive part of the London social calendar. Wimbledon is the most prodigious tournament in history, with a sense of occasion that’s unlike anywhere else. Over the decades, winning here really makes you a tennis legend and for spectators the combination of glamour, excitement and an incredible backdrop is truly life-affirming. Meanwhile, held in the heart of Kensington, the championship contest at the Queen’s Club will feature many of the best single and doubles players currently in the game. Dynamic, timeless and exhilarating, both are equally unmissable!

Men and Women’s Challenge Cup Final

On the 8th of June, the northern powerhouse that’s the rugby league returns south for a highly-anticipated final at Wembley. In 2023, women’s rugby made history, their final taking place on the same day as the men’s, and for those lucky enough to be there the atmosphere was electric. A defining moment, this really seems as if it's only going to go from strength to strength, with crowds of fans flocking to this legendary destination to support a veritable festival of sporting excellence. Tickets are reasonably priced, and the idea that women’s rugby was once merely an afterthought to the men’s game has now well and truly been put to rest.

International Cricket

Running from May to September, international and domestic cricket will be playing its role in bolstering London’s thriving sporting scene. England’s women’s and men’s teams will be out in force, fighting to win tournaments at Oval and Lord’s, two classic venues that are wonderful places to kick back, relax and enjoy cricket at the absolute highest level. England’s women enjoyed record crowd numbers at the Ashes last year and will take on New Zealand at Lord’s and the Oval in May, whilst the increasingly impressive men’s team will face Pakistan at the Oval in May and the West Indies at Lord’s in July. Safe to say, it’s going to be epic.

London Athletics Meet

Returning to the incredible London Stadium in July, London Athletics Meet is part of the Wanda Diamond League series and promises to be bigger and better than ever. In 2023 a sellout crowd of over 50,000 meant it was the best-attended athletics event anywhere on the planet. This year it’s the final competition before the Paris Olympics and Paralympic Games, meaning the very best athletes in track and field will be seeking to make their mark and propel themselves towards even more glory. The camaraderie on the day is genuinely moving and watching competitors of this calibre push the boundaries of what’s physically possible is galvanising, thrilling and hugely impressive.

Champions League Final

This year the Champions League will stage its final in London for the first time since 2013. Held at Wembley Stadium on June 1st, it’s the biggest fixture in club football and, as always, the beautiful game will bring people together, no matter where they’re from. A remarkable thirty-two teams will be competing this year for a coveted place in the final and up to 30,000 people will be able to enjoy bands and live entertainment on Victoria Embankment and MOD gardens in the run up to the match. Food and drinks will also be available in Trafalgar Square, so expect the revelry to go late into the evening. Prepare yourself for emotion, fellowship and undeniable sporting brilliance.
